Reverse Engineer Apps — Privacy Policy
About this policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026.
This policy covers Reverse Engineer Apps, made by Niagara Indie Apps: the desktop app for Windows, Linux and macOS, downloaded from niagaraindieapps.com.
The files you inspect stay on your computer
Reverse Engineer Apps reads the files you choose on your own computer to show their format, metadata, SHA-256 hash, hex header, readable strings and entropy. It does not run the files it inspects, and it does not upload them or their contents or results to Niagara Indie Apps or anyone else. A JSON report is saved only where you choose to save it.
No ads, analytics, or tracking
Reverse Engineer Apps contains no advertising, no analytics, and no crash-reporting services, and it does not track anyone.
Free trial
Each device gets a free 72-hour trial. To run it, the app stores the time it was first opened, plus a random ID it creates when first run, in files on your computer. The main file is encrypted with your operating system's key store (Windows DPAPI, macOS Keychain, or Linux libsecret/KWallet) when one is available, and a second plain copy of the trial data is kept in a Niagara Indie Apps folder in your application-data folder. The random ID is not a hardware, advertising, or operating-system product ID. Nothing is sent to us during the trial.
License activation
The app contacts our license server at niagaraindieapps.com only when you activate a license, and later to re-check that license. When it does, it sends:
• your license key
• this app's ID
• the random device ID described above
• the platform (Windows, Linux or macOS) and the app version
Our server stores a one-way hash of that device ID, the platform, the app version, and when the device was activated and last checked. It also records the IP address of each license request in a license activity log.
We use this only to verify your license, enforce its limit of 2 devices, and prevent license abuse. If you never buy a license, the app never contacts our server.
Links to our website
Some buttons in the app open niagaraindieapps.com in your web browser, for example to buy a license. The app does not browse the web itself. Your browser and our website then handle that visit under the Privacy Policy at niagaraindieapps.com/privacy.
Purchases
Licenses are bought on niagaraindieapps.com. The information you give at checkout (such as your email address) is covered by the site-wide Privacy Policy at niagaraindieapps.com/privacy. Card payments are processed by Stripe, and we never receive your full card number.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app and deleting its data folders removes what it stored on your computer. To free a device from your license, use niagaraindieapps.com/license/manage. To ask us to delete the license records we hold, contact us as described below.
Open-source software
Reverse Engineer Apps is built on the open-source REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) project by morluto and its contributors, used under the MIT licence. Full notices are in the app under Help > About > Open Source Credits.
Children
Reverse Engineer Apps is a technical tool for developers, security researchers, IT staff and students, and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Reverse Engineer Apps changes how it handles data, we will update this page before that version is released.
